ADVenture Lavvu FAQ
Who is Behind the Lavvu
We are two people behind the ADVenture Lavvu, Jez and John
Jez has spent a lifetime in the outdoors and motorcycles, from racing MX at the age of 8 to a Solo summit of Iztaccihuatl to Self support Kayak Expedition of the Grand Canyon to the occasional Motorcycle Rally and solo touring of the TET and ACT he has a passion for adventure but is also a Scout leader and Kayak level 4 coach. So it was natural his carreer followed suit working for companies like SealSkins, Merrel, and Dainese he has built up 25 years of knowledge in Manufacturing and supply chain.
John, the real brains behind the operation is a Rally Racer, Motorcycle and Outdoor enthusiast and all round great guy, building his own motorbikes and adapting kit to suit his needs. John is trained in Architect Design and runs a well respected Product contept design and realisation company. On top of that he also owns and runs ProcessMoto designing and bringing to life product that he needs and thinks others will as well.
Between the two of them there is probably 60 years + of outdoor and product experience but most importantly a passion for Adventure and Motorbikes
What if you do not go into Production
Jez is Personally guaranteeing that if we do not go into production you will get your money back, when you pre-order you will get his home address and you are welcome to turn up and demand it, we are 100% committed to making this happen
All deposits and pre - orders are going into an Escrow account that is separated out from the rest of the business that can only be used to place the order with the factory or refund if production does not goes ahead.
Where is it Produced?
In the 2 years we were developing we picked the best factory we could find and we found a Great one, they do not normally work with small companies like ours but produce high end tents for high end brands.
Yes they are in China, so what, it is almost impossible to find the quality of manufacture and materials needed outside of China, we have checked them out, met them, had a tour of the Factory and its mega! All their staff were lovely and super helpful. We feel like we are in safe hands, and that means the final product will also be what we all need it to be.
If you are against China please do not order, we just want the best.
Are the components available Separately?
The Inner, Fly Sheet, Tarp, Poles, Pegs and Guyropes come as a complete package
Available separately is the Tarp, Poles and Pegs, we will also carry some spares as well.
When will delivery be?
This is slightly like "how long is a piece of string question.. "
We need to have a minimum of 30 people Pre-Order. When we hit that number before the end of June We will launch production on the 1st August 2025. It is 60 days production time and then 30-60 days to ship it to the UK. Our aim is to get them here by the end of December so they are ready for the Jan onwards touring season.
There is the option after the production run to Fly some over, we will offer that option at an additional cost.
Why Lavvu?
Many years ago Jez bought a GoLite Hex3 and turned up to hike in the Pennines, it was small and ultra light, many people were laughing as at the time they were rare.
2 days in it blew an absolute Hooley and many of the really expensive dome tents bent and snapped poles, the Lavvu was one of the only ones left standing.
The Lavvu origins are from the Sami nomadic people from the artic circle, the design is tried and tested for hundreds of years and the Norwegian Army use this style of tent today.
Why re-invent something that is not broken!
We just made it better, lighter, more packable and used the most modern materials available.
Why Hex and not Square Base
Super simple, the rounder the base the more it tolerates wind, many of the square lavvu type shelters are low, they have to be as when the wind hits sideways its like driving a truck into a headwind.
Having a hex base means we can increase height giving you a larger living area.
What is the Packsize?
The complete modular system meaning Inner Tent, Fly Sheet, Tarp, 2 poles and Pegs packs up into a tiny package
- 35cm Length
- 25 cm high
- 25 cm width
- In a Bag with Full wrap Molle ssytem
It will fit directly inside hard panniers, it can be packed in individual parts, strapped to a luggage rack, rear rack etc.
One of the Key selling points, apart from that it's mega, is the pack size, short poles, light weight robust material.
What are the Tent Dimensions
The circumference it 2.2 meters
The sleeping rectangle is
2m Long and 1.6 meters wide, enough for 2 full size sleeping mats
This leaves the sides to stow kit in. (or a Sprocker spaniel to sleep in!)
How Quickly can it be pitched?
Pitching is super simple and takes about a minute to setup the inner and outer Fly sheet.
Peg out the 4 corners of the sleep area and tension with the quick cleats.
Peg out the 2 Side pods and tension
Insert the center pole
Throw over the fly, attach to same pegs or use additional ones, tension with the quick cleats
Job done your tent is ready to use.
When you get used to it, you can pitch the ADVenture Lavvu quicker than most people can assemble their dome tent poles.
Can you pitch the Inner and Outer together?
Yes if you are creative, but when we try we find it quicker to pitch the inner and throw the fly over than try and do it together.
