Why We Built the Seahka Compression Dry Bag

If you've spent any time packing for an adventure, you'll probably know the feeling.
No matter how carefully you plan, there never seems to be enough room.
You squeeze another layer into the pannier.
Sit on the duffel to close it.
Wonder if you really need that extra fleece.
Then realise your sleeping bag is taking up half the available space.
We've all been there.
Compression bags have been around for years. They're brilliant at reducing the size of bulky clothing and sleeping gear.
Dry bags have also been around for years. They keep your equipment protected from rain, river crossings and whatever else the journey throws at you.
So the obvious question became...
Why are they two different products?
That simple question became the starting point for Seahka.
Instead of carrying a compression bag inside a dry bag—or choosing one over the other—we wanted to combine both jobs into a single piece of equipment.
A tough, waterproof dry bag.
An airtight compression bag.
One product.
No compromise.
The goal wasn't to invent something complicated.
Quite the opposite.
We wanted it to be as simple to use as a standard roll-top dry bag.
Pack your gear.
Close the airtight zip-lock rail.
Open the valve.
Roll the air out.
Close the valve.
No pumps.
No extra equipment.
No batteries.
Just less air taking up valuable space.
Early prototype testing has been encouraging, with clothing reducing in packed size by around 30% and sleeping bags compressing by up to 50%, depending on the type of insulation and what you're packing.
Those numbers will continue to be tested before production, but the principle has already proven itself.
The result isn't simply a smaller bag.
It's more room for everything else.
More space for another warm layer.
More room for food on a longer trip.
Or perhaps the ability to carry less luggage altogether.
That's the thinking behind Seahka.
Not a new gadget.
Not another gimmick.
Just a simple idea that removes a compromise Adventurers have quietly accepted for years.
As with every ADV Original, Seahka is currently going through the final stages of development.
We'll keep sharing the journey, the testing and the improvements as we move towards production.
Because the best products aren't built behind closed doors.
They're shaped by the people who will eventually rely on them.
