First we are really lucky to have our manufacture working with us, the owner has got his motorcycle licence and knew instantly what we were trying to achieve and has worked with us every step of the way, and unusually allowed us to do a small production run.
In September of 2025 we paid the deposit and manufacturing began, first all the materials need to be ordered, made, delivered and inspected and then cutting commences, the idea was to make all the inner tents first. And that was the first hurdle, the bathtub floor material had a flaw every 1.2 metres, something had happened in the weaving. So our factory rejected the material and we had to wait for it to be re-made, now if you order enough for a thousand tents things happen quickly, if like us, you are making a few hundred that you kind of go to the back of the queue.
So the factory moved on to the production of the Fly Sheet and the Tarps as all the material was there and for the structural support were able to cut around the flaw so still make some progress. These were all completed in the middle of December.
The Guys Lines arrived along with the pegs and poles, but the poles have a laser etched logo that had been completed inversed, so again we rejected them and are waiting for them to be re-made, we are not making the whole pole again that would be a waste and just go in landfill so we are just replacing the top section and keeping them back in case we can think of a use for them.
We also added a footprint and during the process when through 5 changes to get something usable. The Footprint is not just a footprint but part of the system, you can use it on its own with just the fly sheet to create a lighter shelter more ‘Bothy’ / Bivvy style camping, meaning the whole thing, fly, footprint, pole and pegs is under a kilo and super small.
We are hoping production will be finished mid Jan and we will fly over the ones on pre-order with the rest arriving in the UK End of March 2026.
The march to a fully modular Lavvu Modular Tent is nearly at journeys end, we could not have done this without the 50 people that signed up and paid a deposit, to those we are truly, truly grateful.
2026 is going to be great!
