During one of our design / alteration sessions, (which normally comprised of consuming a couple of beers) after a weekend of camping to see what changes / alterations were needed, we got onto the topic of Footprints, and that lead to quite a heated debate, who would have thought!!
It will add cost, it will add weight, the tub is already 7,000mm HH so its, well, very waterproof, dyneema thread so very tough and we honestly all agreed it was not needed.
Then we went to The Overland Event and had a great chat with Stan, he made the point that it is a disposable base that adds extra protection, but also as a layer that is easily cleaned as far easier to clean a footprint than the tub... Then after some chats with more people we took a massive pivot and decided we would spec one up to be modular as the rest of the Lavvu Tent and be an optional extra.
So here we have it! it will be 50mm smaller than the base, delibertly as i had one once that was bigger and the water ended up between the footprint and the tub and was like being in a swimming pool, it will attach to the tub uprights that stop the tub from folding in. It can be packed with the inner tent or not, and finally acts as a ground sheet if you want to pitch just the outer fly sheet on its own, all in adding to the versatility of the overall concept.
Thank you all for the feedback, we DO listen! Designed by us, refined by you :)
